I love this idea. Just one month ago I did a Vipassana mediation where practice is based on nobel silent and during 10 days you don't have any access to your phone, laptop even books. It was most wonderful experience ones can have. I actually felt anxious during last day when I knew I will get my phone back.
I love this Sara. I have debated getting a flip phone or "basic" phone for over a year but the only thing I truly worry about losing is the ability to take photos of my babies... I have been off of social media (mostly!) since last spring and the final step I want to take is to figure out how to block those websites on Safari on my phone (the only way to cheat your way to the sites after deleting the apps.) I am just technologically inept. :)
That's so cool!! Yes, pictures are tricky! I am contemplating getting a film camera just for fun but it's not the most convenient. Or, using my iphone during the weekends just as a camera (on airplane mode). I don't think a flip phone is the best solution for everyone. I don't even know if it will work for me yet, but I am willing to try!
I have so much to say about this one, because I relate to this sooo much.
I decided to quit my personal instagram nearly 2 years ago and I don't plan on returning ever. It has saved so much time in my life, I can never recommend taking frequent social media breaks enough. They are life changing.
I do feel the same way about how we are connected to our loved ones but are not able to share parts of ourself authentically because that offline connection is missing. I had some really personal news about my life which has been life-changing for me but I held on to telling a few friends of mine who live countries apart because I wanted to share it with them personally. Now it's been 2 years since I've seen them and I feel like the gap has widened with time. I have grown so much because of that one amazing decision but my friends are not here to see that part of me. Neither I am around them to see them build themselves step by step in life. It hurts but you learn to live with it.
I have been leaning towards personal growth a lot since 2022 though. My latest favourite thing to do is to wake up 15 minutes before my usual time to just breathe and read my book a silence. It helps so much with my peace of mind.
Thank you so much for writing this thought provoking piece. Sending so much love and positivity to you! 💛
I liked this - bringing awareness to the topic, an important one. On the other hand, why not deal individually, straight on the beliefs that you feel come with a smart phone instead of diverting away. And find ways to have the smart phone, just not letting it control you.
Totally. I think it's about finding what works for you. I have put my phone on "do not disturb," left it in the other room, etc. The issue is that my association with the phone is a negative one. I notice that when I am around it – even just using it for text or call – it reminds me of all the things I could and should be doing. There are so many ways to deal with this, I just wanted to try a flip phone :)
Beautifully put Sara. Thank you for leading the way inward and sharing about this experiment.
Being new to (consistent) writing and content creation on social media, my screen time has dramatically tripled. How do you manage to disconnect while effectively marketing your business?

I don't think we often realize just how anxiety inducing most of our habits are until we are away from the routine! Thanks for sharing!

I can see that
