Have you ever startled yourself by your own thoughts (by your own unplanned, almost intrusive, honesty)?

Some times “thinking the unthinkable” sounds like:

  • “I am unhappy.”

  • “I regret having kids.”

  • “I don’t want to be in this relationship anymore.” 

  • “I am not attracted to my partner”

  • “I drink too much.”

  • “I am creating the problems in my relationship.”

  • “I am lonely.”

  • “I don’t know who I am.”

  • “I don’t know why I am here.”

  • “I don’t like my ‘friends’.”

  • “My job doesn’t align with my values.”

  • “I am attracted to someone I don’t want to be attracted to.”

In my clinical work, I realized that most humans are scared of themselves. We have so much fear and shame wrapped around the things we think, especially the thoughts that we wish we weren’t having or the thoughts we think others will judge.
