I’ve never been great at New Year’s resolutions. It always seemed a bit irrational to expect that we’d wake up one day and suddenly change 90% of our habits and decisions. That’s not to say I don’t believe in reflection—January can be a meaningful springboard—but instead of chasing goals or changes, what if we focused on building a genuine connection with the one person we’re guaranteed to spend our entire lives with: ourselves? Why are we self-modifying without fully understanding who we are (and why we are) first?
Before addressing my own self-loss, my goals felt like endless to-do lists. I treated myself as a project to complete or fix, not a person to nurture and love. I don’t want you to do the same.
In 2025, try asking yourself: Do I truly know myself? This can feel daunting, especially if you’ve been operating on autopilot and feel disconnected. But maybe I can help! I created a 10-part audio series, Overcoming Self-Loss, to explore why it happens and how we can learn to be authentic and connected within.
As you prepare for 2025, consider setting resolutions rooted in self discovery. Here are five ideas:
Become friends with your emotions. Instead of suppressing or avoiding your emotions, view them as messengers. They reveal your wounds, your past, your lessons, your triggers, and your beliefs. Understanding them is key to understanding yourself.
Declutter your life. Let go of what no longer serves you—whether it’s a scratchy sweater or a toxic friendship. Making enough space to truly be yourself starts with releasing outdated versions of you, and the people or things holding you back.
Pay attention to how you show up. Rather than being consumed by existential questions, observe your patterns, thoughts, and habits. Let your actions reveal your true self, then adjust as needed.
Listen to your body. Your body is more than an object you possess—it’s an integral part of who you are. Honor its wisdom and pay attention to its cues instead of focusing solely on its appearance, utility, or limitations.
Take more responsibility. Responsibility isn’t about blame; it’s about freedom. Own your decisions, growth, and mistakes. This accountability is the foundation of a life that feels authentically yours.
I explore these themes and more in Overcoming Self-Loss. My hope is to help you nurture your relationship with yourself in 2025. Join me on Ritual to start listening for free.
For me, it is the Enneagram that showed me who I am, why and what I am really meant to be when I heal within.
Decluttering - I'm getting into Feng Shui which believes decluttering is essential to moving forwards in life! Its amazing what a good declutter can do 😄 especially those 'sticky' pieces
